Standing for the Rights of Indigenous People
Fundación Pachamama provides legal services and makes available training and consulting on indigenous peoples’ collective and legal rights under local, national and international law.
Informing Historic Legal Action
The work of Fundación Pachamama has been instrumental in the ability of indigenous communities throughout the Amazon region to effectively defend their rights, as evidenced by historic legal cases, including:
- The 2011 ruling against Chevron Texaco that awarded $18 billion in reparations for the cleanup of billions of gallons of oil contamination in the rainforest
- The ongoing case of the Kichwa indigenous people of Sarayaku against the Ecuadorean government and CGC, an Argentinian oil company, asserting indigenous peoples’ right to prior consultation and consent
Our Invitation to You
