Land Titling

Fundación Pachamama supported the mapping, titling, and participatory census of Achuar, Shiwiar, and Shuar territories, the preliminary step in construction and implementation of a Global Information System.

Equipping Indigenous Communities to Gain Title to Their Territories

Training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) enables indigenous communities to map their territories and secure communal title to their ancestral lands, honoring their expert stewardship of the rainforest and giving them legal weight against oil speculation.

Securing Legal Recognition for Ancestral Territories

In addition to GIS training, Fundación Pachamama provides administrative support for other complementary processes for indigenous groups across the Amazon basin.

Fundación Pachamama supported the mapping, titling, and participatory census of Achuar, Shiwiar, and Shuar territories, the preliminary step in construction and implementation of a GIS.

Thanks to this effort, the Achuar, Shiwiar, and Shuar nationalities have secured legal recognition of 865,000 acres of ancestral territories in 2011, for a total of 1.8 million acres to date.
