Who We Are and What We Do

We are primarily educators, therapists, and coaches but we welcome diversity and aim to grow our community. We facilitate ATD symposiums and stay in touch via a monthly hour-and-a-half phone call which keeps us apprised of all our various group activities, and connects us through guided meditations and provocative, thought-inducing questions.   These calls provide learning and emotional support so each member of our community can continue to contribute to our cause.

Many of us are involved as well in related organizations, such as the Transition Town movement, permaculture, ecopsychology and other sustainability-related activities in which we deeply support one another. We believe that the spiritual component of TPA is valuable and unique in progressive, environmental and social justice organizations, and that we might be able to enhance their functioning by sharing it with them.

Our Mission

We are deeply aligned with the Pachamama Alliance’s mission, to create a environmentally sustainable, socially just, spiritually fulfilling human presence on planet earth.

Our current community coordinators are Margaret Rose de Cruz and Dan White.  We are looking to engage more people in our community, and to re-energize ourselves to facilitate the new V.3 symposium.

The Areas This Community Includes

Our group covers a large geographic area, from North Jersey up to the Catskill Mountains in New York, and from New York City out to the tip of Long Island.

We are planning a conference in New Brunswick, New Jersey, for September 2015 with other like-minded organizations, to share The Pachamama Alliance’s vision, and see if there are ways we can collaborate with them in achieving our goals.

Our Community Story

The first members of our Facilitator team, Judy Leaf and Geri DeSapio, were trained in Garrison, NY in 2005.   Judy was the community coordinator for four years, until she stepped down at a retreat in 2009 at Omega Institute.  After that the leadership of our organization was coordinated by a team of three people.  Most of our community members joined us after a Facilitator training in February 2010 at Lifebridge Sanctuary in Rosendale, NY.   Since then we have facilitated 40+ symposiums in teams of 2, 3, or 4, and through this have gotten to know one another well.  We have also held a number of day-long retreats for ourselves and interested new members, the most recent led by Jon Symes in Brooklyn, New York in January 2015.   Many of us have taken the Game Changers’ Intensive, which has deepened our understanding of the roots of social and environmental dysfunction in our world.
