The Pachamama Alliance offers an internship program for high school students, college students, post-graduates and professionals throughout the year. Many positions are available on an ongoing basis, others are one-time projects.
These positions provide fulfilling opportunities to contribute to our mission while learning more about our programs, working closely with the staff and our extended community both in the United States and around the world. We seek to provide an experience which will support your growth and development as a social change agent and provide an avenue for you to put your passion, commitment, skills and experience into action in service of our mission and to the transformation of our world.
Below you will find current information about the internships we offer. These opportunities are updated and others are added periodically.
Duration and Hours of Internships:
Our internships require a minimum commitment of 6-8 weeks and 10-12 hours a week. Some positions request a larger time commitment. We also accommodate other academic internship requirements for credit.
What to Expect:
Interns works closely with their supervisor(s) throughout the internship and may have one project or work on many. We strive to incorporate interns as closely as possible into the day-to-day activities and the organization's culture. Daily duties may vary and include independent projects, administrative support as well as assisting staff. Our pace here is moderate but, at times, can be very busy and dynamic. We are looking to work with enthusiastic, passionate people who are fast learners, able to work independently and be flexible and adaptable when priorities change.
Location:
Interns will generally be working in our Presidio Office although there are some positions that can be done remotely. We are located at the Thoreau Center for Sustainability in the Presidio in Bldg #1009. We are located right on the MUNI 43 Masonic line and the 29 line and the PresidiGo. Stipends:
Internships at The Pachamama Alliance are currently unpaid, but we are interested in looking for sponsors or donors to make stipends and paid internships something we can offer in the future.

FOUR YEARS. GO. Media & Video Internship (Possible Futures Video Contest)
About FOUR YEARS. GO. FOUR YEARS. GO. is a global communications and awareness campaign with a bold vision of changing the course of history, to shift humanity onto a sustainable, just and fulfilling path by 2014. We will do this by first encouraging individuals and organizations to join us in this commitment and then by empowering them with tools to collaborate in this effort. Description of Role The Media & Video Intern for FOUR YEARS. GO. will provide integral support to our Media and Marketing team in researching and implementing the next phase of the FOUR YEARS. GO. Campaign, called the “Possible Futures” Video Contest. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to launch, manage and execute an online, viral, user-generated, video contest with a positive mission. You will learn about the best practices of engaging online communities through incentivized viral marketing. This will be a great experience that will provide admirable skills that will prepare you in your future careers.
Details:
- Hours and Location: 15-20 hours a week, 3-4 hours a day
- Duration: A four month to six month commitment preferred

Responsibilities:
- Researching cutting edge techniques and best practices for online marketing and viral video contest production and promotion.
- Engaging online communities with the incentivized viral marketing.
- Ensuring that FOUR YEARS. GO. is an active online community member
- Creating and executing email campaigns
- Tracking progress and results and reporting to the Media/Marketing Project Manager
Skills needed:
- Basic knowledge of online video platforms (ie. YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)
- Experience with video uploads, storage and playback
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to tailor messaging to target audiences
- Proficiency with computers and internet
- Desire to take initiative and work independently

ATD Youth Initiative Internship: one to two positions
Purpose: To support the ATD
Youth Initiative in it's multifaceted work connecting the Awakening the
Dreamer Symposium to help bring forth a more just, sustainable, and
fulfilling world.
Hours: 15-20 hours a week preferred
Duration: A four to five month commitment is preferred
Start date: Now
Responsibilities will include:
- Working in partnership with others on the everyday operations and further development of the ATD Youth Initiative
- Communicating with a variety of individuals and organizations who are involved or interested in the ATD Youth Initiative
- Editing and updating the Facilitator Roster and Youth Database that contains contact and further information
- Collecting, writing, and sharing stories and news about the ATD Youth Initiative and related events
- Supporting youth Facilitators who are organizing Symposiums and following up with Symposium partiicpants
- Supporting the ATD Youth Coordinating Committee and Working Groups
- Helping
explore further possibilities for the ATD Youth Initiative by
researching and identifying potential partner organizations, networks
and events.
Four Years. Go! Campaign Intern: one to two positions
Purpose: To support the Four Years. Go! Campaign in it's initial phase launching a global campaign to catalyze the Great Turning/Great Transition via building alliances with partners around the globe to create a just, sustainable and fulfilling world.
Hours: 10-20 hours per week
Duration: A four month to six month commitment preferred
Start date: January 15th to May or June 2010
Responsibilities:
- Tracking, organizing, collecting, capturing contact information and commitment details for the growing number of individuals and organizations invited and those committed collaborators with Four Years. Go!
- Support communicating with a variety of individuals and organizations being invited and those already involved
- Support meetings and the international conference calls with agendas, call info, announcements, taking notes and posting minutes
- Researching potential partners and gathering background information
- Communications leadership with dynamic leaders participating in the emerging subcommittees of Four Years. Go!
Skills needed: very organized, good with details, capable of handling/organizing a high volume of information flow, fast typist, enthusiastic and great interpersonal skills. Experience with (or fast learner): Excel, Word, Google Docs, Wiki and internet research.
Basic Qualifications and Expectations for all Internship Positions
• Interns must be comfortable using basic computer programs: Excel, Word, Internet, and E-Mail
• Training will be provided for work using our donor database
• Previous office experience is preferred but not necessary
• Personal Attributes: confidence in working independently, great attitude, flexibility, organization skills, ability to multitask, comfortable and friendly phone manner, great communication skills, enthusiastic, dependable, resourceful, conscientious, detail-oriented, organized, and responsible.
