Van Jones, activist and former special adviser on green jobs to the Obama Administration, points out that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech is rooted in the concept of the American Dream. This concept involves “living in a country where everybody counts and everybody matters.”

Yet nowadays people feel like the American Dream is dying off, yet as Van points out, we are just seeing an “inversion of the American Dream,” with many hard-working people barely getting by and much lazier people making lots of money. While this is wrong it does not mean that America is a broken country. It also does not mean that we cannot re-instill the true American Dream.

In fact, we are still the richest country in the world, so we just need to start using our resources more wisely. As Van points out, we need to “pay America back” by paying our taxes, pay our workers fair wages, and invest our nation’s money in green jobs. Green jobs will help bring the hard-working people back up off their feet and allow us to treat the environment better and set a good example for the rest of the world. Lets rally with Van and reclaim the American Dream!
