Who We Are and What We Do
We are a newly formed Pachamama Alliance Community based in SW Florida, including Lee, Charlotte, and Collier Counties. We envision a growing community of pro-activists in SW Florida who come together at a time of great turmoil and opportunity for deep systemic change. We hope to be of service to people looking for a way to plug into a local network of like-minded people who are globally connected allies for social and environmental justice.
Our mission is to bring together a community of conscious pro-activists who will work together for an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just human presence on this planet'. and in this way, support the mission of the Pachamama Alliance.
The Areas This Community Includes
We are reaching out to the people and organizations of SW Florida, particularly in Lee, Collier and Charlotte Counties, who want to work together for a sustainable, just, and spiritually fulfilling peaceful world.
Our Community Story
We began in the summer of 2016 after Gary Robbins attended a Symposium in Venice, FL and was inspired to bring the Pachamama message to Fort Myers. Joining with Holley Rauen and James Reho, we invited a group of interested peope in our region to take the Game Changer Intensive at the same time.
We then, with the help of Cher Tanner, from the Pachamama Alliance Community of Tampa Bay Area, produced our first Awakening The Dreamer Symposium in Lee County on Oct 29, 2016 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Myers. After that our core group came together and hosted a community pot luck and a Citizens Climate Lobby start-up group for Lee and Collier Counties. Then our newly formed core group produced and led our first Symposium on March 4 2017 at the Lamb of God Church and Community in Fort Myers. It was well attended by about 50 people representing 3 generations.
The core group has been meeting regularly, and we will be offering events and speakers in the coming year. Our next Symposium with be on the Florida Gulf Coast University campus.
Our Community Activities
Our core group meets at least once a month - the third Friday morning of each month at the Happehatchee Eco-Center in Estero, FL. We will be offering community pot lucks with speakers and plan to host these at our different venues periodically throughouth the year. Our monthly First Thursday Game Changer Gathering is scheduled for September 2017.
We are grateful for the support of our sister Pachamama Alliance Community in Tampa Bay and are also eager to participate with Pachamama groups and members around the State of Florida, in the United States, and Worldwide to "affect the kinds of changes that keep us moving toward this new dream for humanity. We invite you to join us!
Our purpose is to organize and deliver Awakening the Dreamer Symposiums in various venues in SW Florida and to support people to become pro-activists, who reflect the mission of Pachamama. We are forming local partnerships with existing and emerging groups and exploring the most effective actions that will positively impact on our social, environmental and political systems and structures locally, nationally and globally. We helped organize a Citizen's Climate Lobby start-up for both Lee and Collier counties and are staying closely connected. We also promote Move to Amend in all of our events and communications. We support the Earth Charter. and want to include it in our conversation that is evolving among many progressive movements.
