Game Changing Movements strike at the root of our most critical challenges. Engage in these movements that will clear the path to the future we want.

Addressing the very foundation of critical issues

Pachamama Alliance is committed to supporting two key Game Changing Movements that are aimed at addressing the root causes of the most pressing issues of our time: our dysfunctional Democracy and Climate Change. We partner with organizations that are central players in building these movements to tackle the most critical issues facing the United States today.

Currently, we work with Move to Amend and Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund who are key players in the growing movement to get corporations and money out of politics and establish government truly of, by and for the People.

And we work with Citizens Climate Lobby in support of the movement in the U.S. to establish a price on carbon emissions through a fully refundable tax on carbon that will speed the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.

Representative Democracy: Choosing the Politics of Hope

The absence of a truly representative democracy hinders our ability to heal the most important social issues that plague us. Unless we have a political system that responds to the common good of ordinary citizens, rather than entities with undue power and influence, progressive action on the issues that matter to us will continue to be pushed to the margins. Transforming this issue is essential to transforming all other issues.

Presently, concentrated financial interests override the will of the people in establishing policies and regulations. Because corporations hold inordinate influence over politicians, they effectively write their own rules, getting policies and legislation passed in their favor.

Move to Amend: Lobbying for a truly representative democracy

Move to Amend (MTA) is a coalition of hundreds of organizations and tens of thousands of individuals committed to social and economic justice, ending corporate rule, and building a vibrant democracy that is genuinely accountable to the people, not corporate interests. Move to Amend is calling for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to unequivocally establish that inalienable rights belong to human beings only, and that money is not a form of protected free speech under the First Amendment and can be regulated in political campaigns.

This is the foundational game changer from which all other foundational social transformation becomes possible. When we remove the barriers to having a functional representative democracy, social change in other areas actually has a chance.

CELDF: Establishing community rights to protect residents and natural environment, and establish sustainability

Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) has assisted more than 150 communities across the country to establish Community Rights ordinances that today are protecting communities from a range of harmful practices, from shale gas drilling and fracking to the land application of sewage sludge. Communities are empowered to protect the health, safety, and welfare of their residents and the natural environment, and establish environmental and economic sustainability.

Community Rights is a paradigm shift, a move away from unsustainable projects and practices at the cost of communities and nature, and toward community decision-making, while recognizing and protecting our interdependence with nature.

Climate Change: 400 Parts Per Million and Counting

Global warming is the most urgent environmental issue of our time. To avoid the worst effects of climate change, scientists say atmospheric CO2 should not exceed 350 parts per million. We recently passed 400 parts per million. And we know the worst atmospheric polluter is the fossil fuel industry - the industry gets away with dumping CO2 emissions into the atmosphere at no cost, leaving the environment and society to pay the price.

Citizens Climate Lobby: Lobbying for real climate solutions by putting a price on carbon

One way to end this is to put a price on carbon emissions and fossil fuels. We are mobilizing participants to work with the Citizens Climate Lobby to pass climate legislation in the United States that would establish a national carbon fee (tax) and dividend program. The legislation will strip the fossil fuel industry of an unfair subsidy, force the industry to internalize the true cost of doing business, and open up a fairer market for renewable energy.

Citizens Climate Lobby is a non-profit, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change. Citizens Climate Lobby trains and empowers volunteers as citizen leaders to engage elected officials and the media to generate the political will for solutions that will stabilize the Earth's climate.
