In honor of Earth Day, two luminaries, Starhawk and Jon Young, discussed the growing “nature connection movement,” and how we can reawaken our inherent connection to the natural world. Specific tools and techniques on how to activate our connection to the natural elements were shared. To help foster a deeper conversation, attendees were asked to read Starhawk’s new book, The Earth Path and Jon Young’s new book, What The Robin Knows.
Starhawk is the author or co-author of twelve books on Goddess religion, earth based spirituality and activism, including The Spiral Dance, and The Fifth Sacred Thing, now in development as a feature film with Yerba Buena Films.
Her latest book is The Empowerment Manual: A Guide for Collaborative Groups, which examines power, process, and conflict for groups that organize without top-down leadership.
A committed activist for global justice and the environment, she is a veteran of progressive movements, from anti-war to anti-nukes to Occupy, is a highly influential voice in the revival of Goddess religion, and has brought many innovative techniques of spirituality and magic to her political work. She has trained activists in direct action and organizing, taught earth-based ritual, healing, and community building world-wide, and directs Earth Activist Training which combines permaculture design with a grounding in spirit and a focus on organizing skills.
About Jon Young
For the last 26 years, Jon Young has been mentoring folks in the nearly lost art of understanding bird and animal language. Just as science is beginning to see the credibility in this ancient skill, Jon has been leading communities world-wide to get these skills back through lectures, workshops, media – but mostly through training and mentoring. Jon’s leading-edge work on bird language has been posted in magazine articles and in books including: What the Robin Knows, Animal Tracking Basics, Coyotes Guide to Connecting with Nature, BirdTalk and Exploring Natural Mysteries, and is the subject of popular audio CD series including Seeing Through Native Eyes and Advanced Bird Language.
